2/25/05

This book contains information about my final effort in documenting Jack’s place of birth, his family and were he lived until joining the Army in Octo= ber 1925. I have made the assumption that he went to Philadelphia after running away from the Catholic school ( LaSalle School, I believe at this time) in Albany. I also have assumed his friend that had the fight with a Priest was Frank or Ray Fusco who later changed his last name to Patrone

TIME LINE & INCONSISTENCIES

Application for replacement of lost Army discharge certificate:

·        Age was written as 23 years old but changed = to 22?

·        Was listed as a resident of Chicago living at 3811 Broadway.

·        States he was discharged October 13, 1926 at= FT. Ringgold, Texas

·        Application states that he was a seaman prio= r to joining the Army

Social Security Application:

·        Gave his place of birth as Albany, NY

·        Gave he date of birth as July 9, 1906

·        Wrote his mothers maiden last name as CARR t= hen changed it to HARRIS

Seaman’s Certificate of American Citizenship#373=

·        This was issued in Mobile December 14, 1927 =

·        In February 20, 1941 the Dept of Commerce/ Bureau of Marine Inspection & Navigation wrote to the U S Customs in Mo= bile questioning the birth date of July 9, 1903 and birth place of Albany, NY

·        Response stated records show July 9, 1905 New York as date and place of birth Duplicate Army Discharge used as proof of citizenship.

Jack’s Union Book active dates 1947 to1956

·        Notation of “22 March 1927 26 yrs̶= 1; Believe this was the first time he met Sibyl Wiggins.

·        On March 16, 2005, I reread Grandmother Willis’s Family Record Book That she had me enter dates in1947 just before I went into the Marines. I had forgotten that I had written March 22, 1927 as the marriage date for Sybil & Jack.

I have written numerous chronologies .This is the most current hopefully with more accurate information..

CHRONOLOGY:         July 1903 to October 1934

Jack Archibald Carr

July 9, 1903            =     Manhattan (Hell’s Kitchen”) New York, NY

July 9, 1903            =     Albany, NY

July 9, 1905            =     New York Application for Seaman’s Certificate of American Citizenship iss= ued December 14, 1927 in Mobile

July 9, 1906            =     Albany, NY Social Security Application in = January 31,1937

 = ;            &n= bsp;            = ;          <= /b>

These are the various dates and  cities that he used for h= is place of birth.  Father William Jack Carr Mothe= r: Winifred (Harris?) Older brother William employed as an engineer for the De Laval Turbine Company in Newark, NJ. Jack last saw this brother in New Orle= ans in

1919&= nbsp;           &nbs= p;            &= nbsp;  Jack was sent to a Catholic Reform School in upstate New York.  This could have been the La Salle = School or the Christian Brothers Academy in Albany, NY. He and another boy ran awa= y. The other boy may have been Frank = Fusco who later changed his name to Patr= one and died in Bay City, TX.

THE U.S.MARINES IN NICARAGUA

Jack made references to be= ing in the Navy Quartermaster supporting the Marines in Nicaragua and was given Bad Conduct Discharge in Philadelphia for stealing government property and sell= ing it to the locals. He mentioned there were six of them Court Marshaled, two officers and four enlisted sailors.

In 1920 Jack was 17 and co= uld have joined the Navy. Given time for boot training he could have gone to Nicarag= ua in January 1922 on the USS Galveston, USS Denver or USS Nitro and assigned quartermaster duties on shore supporting the Marines.

So far I have found no records that he was in = the Navy. The only possible clue is on his application for a replacement Army discharge. It states that he was a seaman prior to joining the Army?

October 7, 1925  &n= bsp;       At the age of 20, enlisted in the U S Army in Philadelphia, PA Pfc. #6773795  Troop E, 12th Calvary, = Ft Ringolld?

This would have been the f= irst opportunity for him to meet Sibyl Wiggins who was 16 years old and working = as a clerk in Hammele’s Department store.

March 22, 1927          This d= ate written in Jack’s union book sometime between 1947 and 1956 with the notation “26 yrs.”=   I recall my mother mentioning  their anniversary was in March?

March 29, 1927   = ;       Sailed from Mobile on the Maiden Creek

May 23, 1927   &= nbsp;         Discharged from Maiden Creek at Gulfport, MS

Jack was in Mobile. Jack d= id not work for 4 months. Until he sa= iled on the West Kyska out of Mobile.

August 1927           &nb= sp;   This is the month I believe Sibyl became pregnant. The unanswered question is El= mer Agee Wiggins really my biological father or is Jack. Elmer was working at t= he same store as Sybil and Jack was in Mobile also.

September 27, 1927   Jack made application for a replacement of his Army Discharge Certificate in Chi= cago and gave his address as 3811 Broadway. It listed his age 23 then changed to= 22 in two places. Why did Jack go to Chicago to apply for a replacement Army Discharge?
